State Senator Liz Krueger attending the CDNY Convention

I was excited today to get a call from State Senator Liz Krueger's staff, informing us that she will be attending our College Dems of New York Convention in April. On Saturday, April 18, CDNY will be hosting its state senate panel consisting of our Democratic State Senators who will be making big changes in Albany this coming year. We finally have a Democratic majority in the State Senate for the first time in more than 40 years. Senator Krueger is the second Senator joining us, along with Long Island Senator Brian Foley.

College Democrats Applaud President Obama

Last night, President Barack Obama delivered an inspiring speech to a joint session of Congress, outlining how he will decrease the deficit by half in the next year, and how he intends on starting the long process of getting our country out of the recession and out of two wars oversees.

As you know, the St. Patrick's Day parade is one of the most famous for New York City. In the past there has been some controversy, especially with City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. In 2007 when she wanted to march, the speaker wanted to wear some sort of pin in support of gay rights, as she is the first openly gay speaker of the council. The organizers, however, refused, so she boycotted the event. Instead, the Speaker marches in the Queens parade, which is open to all.

The Animated Credit Crisis

I've had this video explaining the Credit Crisis sent to me the few times over the last week. It does a pretty good job summarizing how we got here and it'll keep your attention. Since it's only 11 minutes, it does gloss over some sections, but it gives a really clear explanation overall. If you've been wondering how we got here, definitely watch the video!

NY-20: Republican candidate Tedisco is a Liar and a Coward

You know that $787 billion stimulus bill that Congress passed and not a single House Republican voted for? You know that same $787 billion stimulus bill that all three of New York's Congressional Republicans voted against? Well, for that same stimulus bill, Republican candidate Jim Tedisco running for the NY-20 Congressional seat, is refusing to take a stance on how he would have voted on the bill had he been in Congress: http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=771616&category=O... His refusal to admit that he would have, without a doubt, voted with the rest of the Rep

Obama signs $787 Billion Stimulus Bill

On Tuesday, President Obama signed the stimulus bill into law. The bill's total cost, will be $787 Billion, with all Senate Democrats voting for the bill along with three Republican moderates: Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Susan Collins and Olympia Snow, both from Maine. Here is the email President Obama sent out to his supporters:
The recovery plan will create or save 3.5 million jobs, provide tax cuts for working and middle-class families, and invest in health care and clean energy.

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
