Stimulus Passes, No Republicans vote for Bill
Pres. Obama has gotten his stimulus package through, even with out the support of any Republican representatives. Although President Obama made a huge outreach to the Republicans, they all decided that they would rather be part of the past. Much like during the Great Depression they are voting against what the people need to survive. I guess the Republicans in Congress would rather listen to Rush Limbaugh then the plight of the people of their district. According to Minority whip Eric Cantor(R-VA):
"The onus is on Speaker Pelosi. She needs to meet with us. She needs to open her doors. We need to begin to work truly in a bipartisan fashion," he said. "We're trying to work with the White House. President Obama said he has no pride of authorship, so we want to go forward and make sure that we get a stimulus bill that works."This seems to be the fundamental problem with the Republicans. They are more about the fight then what they actually do to help the people that the represent. According to the Huffington Post:
Another week that we delay is another 100,000 or more people unemployed. I don't think we want that on our consciences," said Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the leading architects of the legislation. "There are an awful lot of people in this chamber who think like Herbert Hoover," he said, referring to the president whose term is forever linked in history with the Great Depression. The bill will now go to the Senate where pundits believe it will stand a better chance of getting bi-partisan support.
