CDNY Engage in Huge Voter Registration Drive
(Crossed posted at The Albany Project)
Since the start of September, the College Democrats of New York have been engaged in a statewide effort to register as many students to vote as possible on their college campuses. All 60 of our chapters have been participating in this massive endeavor as we look to register upwards of 10,000 new students to vote.
The state executive board for the College Democrats of NY has set a goal of each chapter registering at least 500 students on their campus. For campuses with larger student body populations, the goal is to register 1,000 students.
Success stories have sprung up from across the state. At Binghamton University, a voter registration drive sponsored by the college democrats chapter and New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) registered 300 students in two days.
At Stonybrook University in Long Island, a whopping 700 students were registered in ONLY 24 hours. The Stonybrook college democrats chapter teamed up with Brian Foley State Senate campaign, Tim Bishop's volunteers, and Steve Englebright's Assembly volunteers to accomplish the amazing feat. Additionally, 87 people signed up on the stonybrook college democrats list serve to attend weekly meetings and get involved.

Total statistics on the number of registered voters done by the College Democrats of NY are still being tallied but you can be sure that the surge in youth turnout will definitely help take back the NY State Senate for the 1st time in 40 years and swing 3 key upstate Congressional races
