"What's Next?"

There was a show that used to air on television (and can still probably be seen in many a dvd player) called The West Wing about a presidential staff faced with the challenge of trying to run the country. One of the recurring themes on this amazing show was that their job was never done; there was always another issue or policy measure or situation that needed to be dealt with. So, whenever something was accomplished, the first thing that was always asked was this short simple question: "What's Next?" It's a question that I'm pretty sure Barack Obama asked after he became the President-Elect last Tuesday. Since his acceptance speech, several high level staffers have been announced, change.gov, a government website dedicated to transparency during the transition, was launched, and Obama's transition team has already "compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse the president on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team." (via the Washington Post). College Democrats, like Barack Obama, can't just stop now that the election is over. College affordability, job creation, healthcare reform, and protecting our environment are still issues and ideas that we as College Dems still need to fight for. We knocked on a lot of doors, made a lot of phone calls, and did a lot of good during the election cycle, but our work shouldn't end there. We need to ask ourselves: What's next?
